Why
buy from The Watchmaker?
We have access to the complete
product selection of all watch brands we carry. This
means we sell brand new, genuine (not counterfeit),
serial number intact, fully "backed up by the
manufacturer" timepieces. Our prices are as competetive
as you will find in the USA from an authorized dealer.
For Hamilton, Rado, and Tissot we are the Factory Service
Center for the entire Northeastern United States.
We are a Swiss Army authorized retailer and service
agent. We maintain and operate one of the finest
repair centers in the country.
We
are an old-fashioned family business; Jack & Terry Kurdzionak started the company in 1987, and both sons are involved actively in the business and local and national trade associations. Son David now serves as president of the company.
We
are convinced that we offer the best sales and service
in the country. Please call anytime.

Authorized
Dealers
Vs.
Gray
Market Watch Dealers
The
Watchmaker is an authorized dealer for all watch brands
represented, both in our Boston
Area store and shown online at www.thewatchmaker.com
When
looking online for new watches, there are thousands
of different websites offering watches at seemingly
major discounts. These websites are never authorized dealers. They maintain little or
no inventory, have no affiliation with the watch manufacturers,
often only have access to "close-out" or
"factory second" merchandise, and in many
cases, are offering counterfeit watches. How
does this work?
The
most common way this works is that an online watch
retailer posts watches for sale at seemingly very
low prices, and waits for the orders to come in.
Anyone can post a picture of a watch and offer it
for sale at a too good to be true price. When
they do get an order, they now have to find the watch. For example, they may have a friend
who owns a watch store that is willing to part with
a watch or two, just to move some inventory out the
door. From here, the serial numbers are usually
scratched off so the origin of the piece cannot be
identified. Any authorized dealer caught "selling
out the back door" risks losing its agency (the
manufacturer will close their account), so they remove
the numbers from the case to obscure the watch's history.
Why is this a bad thing?
A watch with no serial number
has little to no resale value. Also, when it
comes time for service to a watch, a watch with no
serial number will not be serviced by the manufacturer.
They consider these watches to be less than genuine,
as it was sold outside of the dealer network.
The watch could be seized, or more likely just returned
unrepaired. "That's OK,
I'll bring it to a local watchmaker and avoid sending
in to the manufacturer or service center....
He can fix it, right?
Wrong.
Many major Swiss watch companies restrict parts distribution
to authorized service centers only. If a watch
needs a part (and every watch does eventually need
service and parts), you are stuck. Most local,
independent watchmakers don't have access to the proper
components, and the authorized service centers are
not allowed to touch it because it's been tampered
with. Many "gray market retailers"
offer their own "in house" warranties.
These companies are offering to fix watches for which
they have no access to spare parts. Their guarantees
are worthless.
Before
you buy a watch anywhere on the net over the phone,
call us. We'll do our best to compete with price.
As far as service goes, there is no competition- we
win every time.
