Repairs and Estimates

We generally need to see a watch to determine its condition, availability of parts, and to prepare a repair estimate. If you live in the Boston, Massachusetts, area please visit us during business hours. If you are not local to the Boston area, you may ship your timepiece to us via the carrier of your choice. Estimates are generally free and we charge only for return shipping and insurance. See below for shipping information.

See out our repair page for more information.

Shipping

Our mailing address is The Watchmaker, 379 Main Street, Stoneham, MA 02180 USA. Securely package your timepiece in an appropriate sized container, with ample padding. Most carriers offer insurance against loss or damage in transport, and when shipping a timepiece, we recommend insuring it for its full replacement value. Please call, fax, or e-mail us at THE WATCHMAKER for questions on how to safely ship your timepiece to us.

Jack Kurdzionak started repairing watches and clocks as a hobby in the 1960s but it became his full time career in 1980 when he left his high school teaching job. Throughout the 1980s he repaired thousands of watches and clocks in his home for several Boston area jewelry stores, and also taught the evening watch repair course at the North Bennett Street School in Boston. In 1987, Jack and his wife Terry opened The Watchmaker, a retail watch and clock repair shop in their hometown of Stoneham, Massachusetts. Although the North Bennett Street school closed its watch repair course, Jack continued to teach private students in his workshop. After serving as a director for several years, Jack was elected president of the American Watchmaker's-Clockmaker's Institute (AWI), August 2002, and served for 2 consecutive terms. AWI is the largest international watchmaking association in the world.

Terry Kurdzionak is a registered nurse, but has helped run the Watchmaker since the first store opened in 1987. She handles sales, minor repairs, and administrative duties. She owns and operates "eckcells," which is a spare parts distribution business serving watchmakers nationwide.

Son John's first words in the early 1970s were "tick-tock". After learning the business from his father throughout his growing-up years, John began repairing clocks full-time at the Watchmaker in 1993 immediately after graduation from Merrimack College in North Andover, MA. In 2006, John opened his own fully equipped clock repair shop in Woburn, MA called JFK Clock Repair.  John's website is www.jfkclock.com. He is a past member of the Board of Directors of the American Watchmakers-Clockmakers Institute, and is a past President of the Massachusetts Watchmakers-Clockmakers Association.

Son David is the youngest, and he is the president of the company. Dave is responsible for overseeing the repair department and sales department for the retail store. Dave is responsible for all new watch purchases and the administrative part of the repair department. Although not a watchmaker, Dave is Swiss trained to work on certain calibers of ETA movements, and has a thorough knowledge of watches, inside and out. Dave is a 1999 graduate of Plymouth State College with a degree in music. "I got a degree in saxophone.... so of course I'm selling watches!"  Dave is also the author of the booklet "The Care and Service of Fine Watches," a free booklet detailing how to take care of a fine timepiece.  Dave is also chairman of the board of directors in the Mass Watchmakers-Clockmakers Association, and is editor of the MWCA newsletter.

Watch and clock repairing is our family's full-time occupation, not our hobby, and we have a modern repair shop with the most up-to-date tools and equipment. We bring you years of experience in the trade and offer you the highest quality repair on your timepieces.
